There are several sets of instructions (http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_use_the_boot_menu) , you need to select the one suitable for your model (the Duo / NV / NV+ / X6/600 section in your case).
BTW, You can alternatively force a factory default by deleting the partitions on all the drives on your PC. Then the NAS thinks it is doing a new install.
