ReadyNAS NV+ V1 very slow, error cause "attempt to access beyond end of device" writing to logs
Hi,
My ReadyNAS was very slow, today when i take time to analyze i discovered the cause, i had two deamons with high cpu usage (>80%), klogd and syslogd, both where continually writing the same error for log files:
jumbo:/var/log# tail kern.log
Dec 6 21:25:12 jumbo kernel: dm-0: rw=0, want=71180927040, limit=11707023360
Dec 6 21:25:12 jumbo kernel: attempt to access beyond end of device
jumbo:/var/log# tail syslog
Dec 6 21:25:12 jumbo kernel: attempt to access beyond end of device
Dec 6 21:25:12 jumbo kernel: dm-0: rw=0, want=71180927040, limit=11707023360
After rebooting with volume check the problem wasn't resolved.
Any idea of the origin of this problem?
PS: Workaround for having a more responsive NAS was to reduce priority of deamons process with renice command
Best Regards
Carlos Pereira

Hello whocarez,
Welcome to the community!
You might want to read this article: How to optimize the ReadyNAS performance.
May I also ask for the current firmware version?

Hi Jenn,
Until now i didn't have any problems with my readynas (almost 9 year trouble free :-) )
I'm using the last version of firmware, 4.1.14

Hello whocarez,
It must be because the logs are almost getting full, that's why I asked for the FW version.
I'm glad everything's working flawlessly.
