ReadyNAS NV+ v2 - won't boot with more than 1 disk in
Hi there I recently wanted to erase all disks and start a fresh with my ReadyNAS unit. It's been great for 12+ years and worked flawlessly. After erasing all disks the unit refused to boot. ...

That was successful in 2 and 4. Although when in slot 3 the error message was “disk 1 failed”

To clarify, it actually says disk 1 failed when moving disk one to any of the other slots.

- ddeadmanJan 16, 2024AspirantYes I did power down each time.
Each time with disk 1 in slots 2, 3 & 4 it booted up ok and had an ip address.- StephenBJan 16, 2024Guru - Experienced User

Not sure why the failure message when slot 1 was empty - but I don't own an NV+ v2, so perhaps it is normal (just telling you that the NAS is booting from a different disk).
- Have you tried testing the disks in a Windows PC using vendor tools (connecting the disk with a USB/SATA adapter)? It's possible one of the disks has failed in such a way that it is crashing the SATA bus?
- If that is not possible, have you tried doing a factory install with one of the other disks in place (leaving the other slots empty).
If the disks are ok, and the NAS boots with them individually, then it might a power adapter problem (that is, the power adapter might no longer be providing enough current).
Odd that this happened now - but with blank disks, the NAS will try to run the disk self test before it uses them, so that might be part of the puzzle.
