ReadyNAS NV+ V2 doesn't accept "admin" password.
Hi All, NAS has been sat there doing it's job for ages, exactly one year and one day to be precise. Decided to log in today to generally have a look around at space remaining and log entries etc and...

You download the logs from the web ui.
The guide here shows how to do it for "Raidiator 5" - which is what you are using. http://kb.netgear.com/25625/How-do-I-send-ReadyNAS-system-logs-to-NETGEAR-Support?cid=wmt_netgear_organic
Note no one is requesting your logs, so don't send them in.
I don't own a v2, but likely you will see something like smart_history.log in the zip file. mdstat.log will likely also be there, and on other systems includes reallocated sectors, etc.

Thanks for the prompt reply. How do I check the the SMART stats/disk health logs please? I've tried SSH and Telnet to the NAS but it refuses my connection. Also I didn't need to pull the plug to shut it down, I just used the front "power" button to tell it to shut down gracefully. Apart from that it was working perfectly.

There is a netgear add-on you'd need to install to enable ssh. Once installed, the username is "root" and the password is the NAS admin password. Telnet is normally only available if you are booting in tech support mode.

Hi StephenB.
Thanks for your prompt and helpful responses. SSH loaded and awaiting restart.
Logs checked and two items of interest; one of which caused my problem:
The error.log file has this entry for every login attempt I made before reboot:
[Thu Dec 15 11:37:07 2016] [error] [client 10.76.7.77] (12)Cannot allocate memory: Could not run external authenticator: 12: /usr/bin/pwauth
[Thu Dec 15 11:37:07 2016] [error] [client 10.76.7.77] AuthExtern pwauth [/usr/bin/pwauth]: Failed (-1) for user admin
[Thu Dec 15 11:37:07 2016] [error] [client 10.76.7.77] user admin: authentication failure for "/admin/": Password MismatchThe other log message is from the user.log file and relates to disk errors.Should I start a new thread for the other as I think we're now going off topic?
Thanks

I see you started a new thread (which is the best way).
