I'd expect to see some log entries when the disk insertion was detected, and some progress indicators from there.
I've never been clear on what is supposed to happen when you insert a third [intermediate] disk size with XRAID2 - all the netgear info I've seen sticks with 2 sizes, and the forum posts are mixed. Conceptually it would be tricky, I am not sure how the NAS could create an upper layer for the extra 250 GB, since it would have to split the existing upper layer on the 2 TB drives. Though at the very least, it should rebuild the 750 gb base layer reasonably quickly.
You could test the drive in a PC using WDC Lifeguard, and make sure it is ok.
