ReadyNAS NVX Disc Expansion Fail - RESOLVED BY NETGEAR
Summary
The NVX had 3 x 2TB drives (3.6Gb space + Redundancy)
Hot swapped a new 2Tb Drive (Same make maodel as previous 3 - WD2002FYPS RE-4 GP)
Fourth Disk Recognised BUT vlume not expanded - still 3.6Gb.
PLEASE, Any ideas what to to fix?
Relevant Information
VOLUME/Volume Setting Screen:
Disk space
3134 GB (84%) of 3704 GB used
[Additional 1863 GB reserved for snapshots
RAID Configuration] Note text in brackets copied accross BUT NOT APPEARING ON SCREEN!!!
Configuration: RAID Level X-RAID2, 4 disks
Status: Redundant
{Next added drive: Will be used to expand volume
Will be used to add dual redundancy } Note text in brackets copied accross BUT IS NOT APPEARING ON RAIDIATOR SCREEN!!! These blind messages probably explains why the volume has not expanded - BUT since these text messages and probably option boxes are not on screen - how do I FIX?
RAID Disks:
Ch 1 : WDC WD2002FYPS-01U1B1 [1863 GB]
1858 GB allocated
Ch 2 : WDC WD2002FYPS-01U1B1 [1863 GB]
1858 GB allocated
Ch 3 : WDC WD2002FYPS-01U1B1 [1863 GB]
1858 GB allocated
Ch 4 : WDC WD2002FYPS-02W3B1 [1863 GB]
1858 GB allocated
As I note above two blocks of text (see above in brackets) do not appear on RAIDIATOR screen (blind text?) but copied across here - probably explains why the volume has not expanded - BUT since these text messages and probably option boxes are not on screen - how do I FIX?
Any help, advice or assistance greatly appreciated.
Also started with 2 Disks - added third drive a year back with no problems. Was hoping for a no problem experience adding this fourth drive.
Thanks

Please try a reboot, wait 5-10 minutes and if expansion hasn't started, try another reboot. Expansion should then take place.SteveSyd66 wrote:

You should not see that message on a 4-bay NAS as dual-redundancy is not an option.
Welcome to the forum! - SteveSyd66AspirantDear mdgm
Running RAIDiator 4.2.19 in XRAID-2 mode
Yes I agree about the snapshot message and that I "should not see that message {Will be used to add dual redundancy } on a 4-bay NAS as dual-redundancy is not an option".
I will follow your advic about the reboot and thank you for that advice.
Will report results.
Bye

Re-boot has not worked. Status remains unchanged.
Tried three serial re-boots (through front view) last night - waiting 10 minutes between - no change.
Have repeated 3 re-boots (through front view) this evening - no change.
Any more ideas?
Perhaps:
Revert to an earlier version of RIADIator?
Remove disk 4 and re-format then re-try?
Any advice well appreciated.

See http://www.readynas.com/support. Please edit the thread title (i.e. subject of first post in the thread) to include your case number. If it's an online case I think you might be able to submit the logs zip file (Status > Logs > Download all logs). If not NetGear will probably request this and provide you instructions on how to send them to them.

Thanks, will do.
Your advice and assitance greatly appreciated.
SteveSyd66 - SteveSyd66AspirantProblem resolved by NETGEAR Support.
Very courteous level 3 and level 2 support technicians, provided very professional advice, support and patience.
Could not be more impressed.
Solution involved granting remote access to NETGEAR and they expanded the logical volume and then checked and resized the file system.
There were some anomalous reports as regards space - but they also resolved those issues.
Glad I bought NETGEAR.
