ReadyNAS NVX resurrection
I know this is a shot in the dark, but I have a ReadyNAS NVX that has been sitting in a box for years now, and I finally decided to see if I could reconnect it to my home network and use it. I plugged it in and it powered right up, and was even able to find it using raidar on my old mac mini. Raidar indicates that it's running fine with all 4 disks in the green and the temp is fine. Unfortunately this is as far as I've been able to take it. I haven't been able to connect to it. I tried selecting setup, but it didn't recognize the password I used. I tried to load raidiator, but it would load indicating it needed Java. I do have a password recovery question/answer, but I don't know how to get to where I can use it.
Currently the NVX is connected to an ASUS router which the old computer is as well, and like I said, raidar finds it immediately. I'd really like to get back into this to see what all is on it, aside from my music collection. Any help would be welcome.
I have also been trying to load raidar/raidiator onto my new mac and that's not working either.
You can do an OS reinstall from the front panel. That will reset the admin password to netgear1, and will also reset the network configuration to use DHCP. Instructions are on pages 21-22 here: https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/RNDU2000/ReadyNAS_Ultra_UltraPlus_NVX_Pro_HW_en_8July11.pdf
If you care about the data that might be on it, be careful not to do the factory default.
Then browse to https://nas-ip-address/admin (using the real IP address of course), and click through the security warning. Current (and final) firmware for the NVX is 4.2.31 ( https://kb.netgear.com/000038793/RAIDiator-x86-Version-4-2-31 )
Note that the only version of SMB supported by the NVX is SMB1. You can enable that in Windows 10, but I don't think it is possible on a new Mac (not sure, as I am not a Mac owner). So you would be limited to AFP or NFS (or FTP).
Also - while some 4.2.x NAS can be converted to run OS 6, the NVX cannot be. It is a 32 bit platform, and OS 6 requires 64 bits.
