ReadyNAS OS 6.4.2 Upgrade on RN104 Experience

Aggravating same issue as previous 6.4.x upgrades.

After initial download of upgrade, 104 freezes on shutdown.

After a power unplug, power on, unit booted, installed firmware upgrade and came online.

Trying a regular admin page shutdown now, same freeze.

Appears to be a persistent issue. (I believe the 6.4.1 resolved it from the 6.4.0 upgrade, but now it's back?)

Fortunately, booted fine after a power disconnect.

This is a plain vanilla unit, nothing fancy, approved hard drives installed.

I try to keep devices with current firmware figuring the latest is the latest for a reason.

Very souring experiences...time-consuming, alarming, unnerving, frustrating.

I wish NETGEAR could get this right.

Beware.

  • It looks like you have allowed snapshot access enabled on some of your shares. The system was having trouble unmounting those when you shutdown on both of your shutdown attempts.

Can you try disabling "Allow Snapshot Access" on your shares and check if the system shuts down properly?

I see you have some apps installed and that you are running an old version of Photos II. You might wish to try updating to the latest version of Photos II.

Which apps do you have installed?

Can you send your logs in (see the Sending Logs link in my sig)?

Edit: Also, i have moved your post. The beta forum is not for discussing issues encountered on production firmware releases.

      Thank you.

Disabling the Allow Snapshot Access has allowed the unit to shut down. Is this an issue for the engineers to correct? Surely unmounting is an internal matter, and should not require a user intervention such as this. In other words, what's the point of a feature if it means having to disable it to get the device to function properly. Not logical to me.

      I have updated the apps.

Apps installed are Photos II, Surveillance, Wordpress, Anti-Virus and Logitech Media Server. The only one used actively is Media Server for some Slimbox devices.

I appreciate the assistance and insight.

      Regards.

You could try enabling the "Allow Snapshot Access" again and see if you still have the issue.

There is a known performance issue with the anti-virus service at the moment. I would disable it under System > Settings > Services in the web admin interface if you have not already.
