ReadyNas Pro 2 / MS Win Server 2008 r2 share issue
Hi,
I am trying to create a new backup job (TimeStamp or Archive Bit) to a ReadyNas Pro 2, from a folder at a MS windows Server 2008 r2 machine but I am having troubles. It's working fine when the source is a folder on a PC (running vista) in my local network (with a local IP like 192.168.0.15).
This Win 2008 r2 server that I am trying to connect to is located outside my local network and it's also behind a router, do I need to setup any kind of port forwarding rules in the router to the server? If so what ports?
The error I get when I click the "Test Connection" is "Unable to connect".
Any ideas?
Fredrik

- evan2NETGEAR ExpertYou need to map PC's IP address in router, then public network can access your PC which is behind the router.

OK, could you be more specific "map PCs IP address in router"? Does that mean regular port forwarding, if so which ports? Or what do you mean?
FYI: I can access the PC behind the router with remote desktop (from external network) because I have done a port forward in the router to that PC:s internal address.
please advise...
ed - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI don't believe it is safe to open up the CIFS ports in your office network (or in your home network). There are a lot of security issues there. Many ISPs block the CIFs ports due to security concerns, so I am not sure it would work anyway.
A better solution is to use a VPN tunnel between the remote server and your home network.
