I suggest rebooting the NAS first. If the status doesn't change, then remove the drive (NAS running) and hot-insert it. Be very careful to remove/reinsert the correct drive.
If that fails, then try the PC formatting.

Tried hot-swapping and then restarting. No effect. I'll try formatting now.
