Readynas Pro 6 - Pro Support

Hi all, I am looking to find out more details regarding pro support for my Readynas Pro 6. However, when I called into support they advised that only per incident support is available. The reason I am asking this is the customer I support has no real technical knowledge and it is always a worry for me when I am unavailable. It would be good if there was a service I could purchase so they could effectively call an experienced support engineer who could remotely go in and assist them if I was not able to. Thanks...

    It is what it is.

The 314 is a suitable replacement for the Pro 4. It has a faster CPU than the Pro 4 and double the RAM. It is not as powerful as the Pro 6 however. It depends on the use case whether it would be appropriate.

The 516 has a more powerful CPU than the Pro 6 and 4x the RAM.

Yes you can run dual-redundancy on the 314. On a 4-bay system with dual-redundancy the capacity of the smallest disk would be used.

On rackmount the 3130 or for a 12-bay the 3220/4220 depending on budget would be the way to go.

ProSupport contracts are not available for purchase for legacy ReadyNAS.

If your customer is willing you could get the customer to purchase e.g. a 516 and a ProSupport contract and use the new NAS as the main NAS and use the Pro 6 for backup.

You may find this article helpful for transferring data from the Pro 6 to the new NAS: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/29730/~/how-do-i-back-up-data-from-a-raidiator-4-system-to-a-readynas-os-6-system%3F

Thanks for the feedback... It is somewhat disapointing that pro support is not offered on the older units and one of them isn't even 3 years old yet! I didn't go for an OS6 system back then since they were very much in their infancy.

So how reliable are the new 516 and other OS6 based models compared with models like the pro 6?

From a performance and reliability perspective (we don't need 6 drives) would the 314 be a good match for the pro 6 that ultimately we will be looking to replace? I presume the 314 can run dual redunancy with X-RAID2.

Finally, if we were to go for a rack mount model, which one would be a close match?
