Just thought I'd post a follow up. I replaced the power supply and have had no further crashes, so it looks like that was the issue.

Once you open it up, it's pretty easy to see how to connect the ATX supply. The NAS needs the standard 24-pin ATX connection and the 4-pin CPU power connection on the main board, plus 3 4-pin Molex hard drive connections on the SATA backplane. Just plug those in from your ATX supply. You'll have to get a bit creative to run the cable out but keep the cooling fan drawing air through it since yours is going to be more than just a simple "did it boot" test.
