SOLVED !!
Had a very friendly chat with Arthur from Netgear Support and he pointed me in the right direction.
My network setup had changed slightly (added an AppleAirport Time Capsule) and that had changed my network range outside of the fixed IP which I had given the NAS.
So connected the NAS with a direct cable through my laptop and changed the IP to be flexible instead of static, and I am back in business.
