The short story is that readynas remote is incorrectly hijacking public internet addresses (5.x.x.x) for its VPN. I've complained about it several times now, but Netgear remains asleep. There is no workaround that I know of.
The longer story is that the 5.x.x.x addresses were reserved years ago (and were safe to use then).
But as IPv4 addresses began to run out, many formerly reserved addresses were released. In November 2010 the 5.x.x.x range was assigned to RIPE, and are now being used. For some reason Netgear has ignored that for nearly 4 years.
