Readynas rn10400 - Boot from USB failed

Good morning,

tonight the nas has powered off due to a general power down, there was and USB pen drive connected.

Now I see "Boot from USB failed".

Naturally I have disconnected all the USB drives from the NAS but:

either power button and backup button are blinking, and I can't power off the nas using the power button.

If I unplug the power cable when I put it back the nas instantly go again to the error "boot from USB failed". How can I force the nas to a normal boot.

 

How is possible that if I leave an USB drive connected to the NAS and the power goes down then I can't it boot again in normal mode?

    The OS may have failed to start but the cause might not be with a USB drive connected. What was the cause of the reboot or power down in the first place? Usually an update causes the NAS to fail to boot.

     

    If you have removed the USB Drive and restarted the NAS but still getting the same error, you may want to make sure to check the status on RAIDar. Doing an OS-reinstall might help but if you are still getting a USB boot fail. USB recovery might be the next step.

      Thanks first of all.

      The power off of the nas was caused by a general power down in the office during the night.

       

      I tried the USB recovery.

      The first time everythings seems was gone well I got the message "recovery done" and the nas powered off at the end of the process.

      Then I powered I on and I got again the message "boot from USB failed"

       

      I tried again the recovery from USB and then, at the end of the process, I got the message "DEBUG telnet 192.168.1.73"

      I tried severl times, alway the same message.

      I can ping the IP but can't have access with telnet.

       

      Don't know what else I can do or try, any suggestion?

       

      Anothe question is: I just ordered a new NAS RN214.

      Can I put the disks of the RN104 in the new RN214 in order to get all the data back?

        You can directly migrate disks between OS-6 systems. 

         

        If the issue is simply with the chassis, then migrating the disks will work.  But if the power failure corrupted the array, then migrating won't solve your problem.

         

        FWIW, you should also get a UPS for the NAS.

         

        Is there a backup plan in place, or is all the data lost?
