ReadyNAS RN316 + Seagate ST3000DM001

I've just got a ReadyNAS RN316 and have upgraded the firmware to 6.1.8. I have some drives; one 4TB WD drive and one 3TB Seagate ST3000DM001. My understanding is that you should start an X-RAID2 with the smaller drive and put the larger one in second which will be used for redundancy.

I first put in my brand new WD drive to test the unit, this worked fine, but after doing more reading about the X-RAID2 setup I want to put the initial system on the 3TB Seagate instead. The Seagate is a used drive, but I removed all the partitions and created a MSDOS partition table (not I've also tried a GPT partition table here). I put the Seagate in, hold down the reset button and select Factory Reset and I'm presented with the error 'ERR: Could not p' on the LCD screen and I cannot access the web interface once it is up and running.

If I put the WD drive back in everything works.

The Seagate is on the hardware compatibility list, is there a deeper problem?

If it happens again (it is unlikely to) you should contact support. A USB Boot Recovery should fix an issue like this but you should only do that if recommended to by support.
