ReadyNAS Snapshot and data recovery
Using firmware 6.10.3 on RN314. Win 10 clients attached. I have a share. It has snapshots every day. I also do backups every day to external drive. Daily is incremental backup. Weekend is full backup. I rotate backup disks (4 total). Swap the drives on the weekend.
I create a folder, add files, and work on those files for 6 months. 5 weeks goes by with no work on that folder. Now I find that someone has deleted a whole folder, but I do not know when that folder was deleted.
What's the most efficient way to recover a whole folder of data that was deleted (?) whenever?
I have about 2 years of snapshots. But my backup drives are rotated.
Is there a better way to manage my backups? And is there a way to log Folder deletions only? Obviously, we delete files all the time, but rarely folders. Thanks for any assistance/input.

So basically, start browsing each snapshot (each Day) starting from today and working backwards in time, until I find the folder again that was missing. Possibly 25 snapshots.
I wouldn't look sequentially. I'd start somewhere in the middle (say snapshot 12 if you have 25). If you see it, move forward in time (say to snapshot 18), if not, shift backwards (say to snapshot 6). That should be quite a bit faster.

I'd start by browsing the snapshots for the share in the web admin ui.
If you know the approximate date that you last changed the folder contents, that might simplify the search.

Wish there was a search feature.
