Readynas ultra4 air video to ipad3 loads every 5 seconds!
Hi all,
I searched a lot on this forum and found a lot of raving reviews of the air video solution to stream movies to the ipad.
At the moment I installed the latest radiator sw on the nas, the 2.0.00 air video server software and the 2.0.00 (or 1.3) ffmpeg sw on the readynas and installed the app on the ipad. A speedtest for my wifi connections indicates around 28 Mbps.
Activated first the air video and than the ffmpeg sw. I changed the media library path with notepath++ and after starting up the app on my ipad my movies are all recognised and are valid.
Movies are avi, mkv, video_ts, iso, mp4, ....
So far so good! Great!
If i select a movie and it really doesn't matter which one I select (even a small avi of 64 MB), and start it with the "play with live conversion" option (i suppose that this is the obvious way to use this application to stream a movie to your device) it will play for about 5 seconds and starts loading again, plays 5 seconds and loads again....
I tried different settings for Max width, Max Height, Quality for offline conversion, local wifi settings, but nothing seems to change anything to this behaviour...
So, I have a few questions:
- What am I doing wrong?
- What are the best settings of the different parameters?
- Is there anybody out there whith good results in streaming movies from the readynas ultra4 to an ipad?
By the way: if I use the Oplayer HD app (with no additional sw on the nas) I'm able to stream video's without any issue until avi's of 1.5 GB, large mkv's (several GB) start to stutter and pauze for loading. So I expected air video to perform better.
Any help and feedback would be highly appreaciated!
Chears to you all.
Chris

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThe Ultra 4 has a single core Atom CPU. Sounds like it's not powerful enough to transcode (convert video on the fly for streaming) that video. See CPU Specs of the ReadyNAS
With Plex (an alternative to AirVideo) for transcoding 720p video you need the Ultra 6 Plus and for 1080p you need the Pro 6. I imagine it's similar with AirVideo. - DuvelAspirantFair enough, and that was what I already expected. But even with an avi file of 64 MB it exposes the same behaviour. That is very strange.
Does anybody know whether the changes you make to the parameters in the air video app will apply immediatelyn or that you have to have to restart the application?
Secondly, even if the "on the fly conversion" is asking too much processing power, what is than the best way to get the optimal results with the readynas ultra4? - DuvelAspirantSo it means that the whole idea of installing the air video server soft on the readynas ultra series is worthless :-(
Any other suggestion which works to stream video from your NAS to an Ipad? - Hotrod1969AspirantMediaConnect works ok for me with one or two small niggles ( see my post http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=63032 )
