ReadyNAS104 External USB Drive now Read Only Previously Read/Write

ReadyNAS104 Firmware: 6.10.7

For unknown reason my external Seagate Backup Plus Drive became Read Only.

I have tried to change it back to Read/Write but cannot.

I see this system message:
System: External storage 'Backup+ Hub BK' might not have been safely ejected after last use. This device will be read-only. Plug it into its native operating system and repair it before it will be writeable.

But I had formatted this drive for my NAS server several years ago.

  • That worked, thanks.

I should have been able to do that on the ReadyNAS.

BTW, I have had 3 additional external drives go in the same state since.

As the message says, somehow the drive wasn't properly ejected. If it is formatted in a format your PC recognizes (FAT32, NTFS, etc) then insert the drive back into the PC. The PC will offer to "repair" it. Let it do that, and when that process completes, reconnect the drive to the NAS. At that point it will be read/write.
