This happened to me as well. Today I wasn't able to release three of the four hdd trays while dusting out the unit. It took me a while to figure out but I remembered reading this post when researching the readynas so I came back to get the details.
After getting the latches released, I unscrewed the hdds and plastic releases from the trays. I then sprayed the release mechanisms with silicone and compressed air. Now the sliding bit inside the trays' release door slides again. Let's see how long it will take for dust to collect and jam the release button!
Hey does anyone know if these trays were re-designed on newer units?
