Really Slow Lan Speeds With Windows 7
Hello. I bought the Ready Nas NV+ years back when it was developed by Infrant. Never had many problems the device. My read/write speed were always acceptable with wireless or wired computers. When I first got this device, I was running Windows XP pro. I still run Windows XP pro on 3 wired computers in my home. They can read or write data to the device fine.
My problem started when my wife bought a wireless laptop loaded with Vista on it about 2 years ago. Reading and writing data was a nightmare. I found some info on the net about changing the computers MTU settings. That seemed to have worked a lot, but I can't remember what I changed the values to.
I now have Windows 7 installed on 2 wireless laptops and one wired computer. My wired computer seems to access data fine. It's a media server so it never writes to the NAS device. There is definitely something goofy with Vista and Windows 7 that's conflicting with the Ready NAS device though. Read or write speeds or not consistent at all.
I've read about other people having these issues too, but it doesn't seem like many of those people found solutions. Is it time to move on to another NAS device or will I have the same issues I'm having now?
Like I said, I've transferred files to and from this device with no issues until I had Vista and Windows 7 computers on my network. I've tried many of the fixes suggested online with no luck. Windows doesn't seem to be addressing this issue and from what I see, Netgear don't seem like they want to do anything about it either.
Has anyone out there like me switched to a different device with any luck or has someone found a simple fix for this?

- phil2415AspirantI'm having exactly this problem too. I am the IT Manager at a large university campus and around a year ago I purchases two ReadyNAS 2100s for document storage. We're still in the process of migrating from Windows XP to Windows 7 on our desktops, and it's very noticeable that whilst documents on the NAS open very quickly in Windows XP, in Windows 7 there is a very, very significant delay - worse still when saving and closing. Users are constantly complaining to me. I've tried changing the MTU setting on the NAS, on a test Windows 7 client PC, with no improvement thus far. I've also ensured that Jumbo Frames are disabled (they're almost certainly not supported over our corporate network). I was going to disable journaling but from what I've read this would only give a modest performance improvement and is unlikely to be the root cause of this problem which seems to plague Windows 7 users in particular.
- xsspeed03AspirantTry doing some tests with iPerf.
You'll need to SSH into your NAS and make it the iPerf server.
Then, on your Win7 machine run iPerf and increase the size of the TCP Window.
I've noticed with iPerf tests that the throughput more than doubles when increasing the TCP window size.
Win7 doesn't allow you to change the TCP window size like WinXP did.
Of course, this probably doesn't solve your problem, just like it didn't solve mine. Just tells us that Micro$oft has some work to do.
For the NAS, you can get iPerf here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/iperf/files/
For your Win7 machine, you can get jperf (a fancy iPerf GUI) here: http://code.google.com/p/xjperf/downloa ... -2.0.2.zip
Make sure you have Java installed: http://java.com/en/ - totalsurfAspirantHi,
I found a solution to this problem as my network is also gigabit and running on cat6 cable, so it should have been very fast!
I debugged the fault and knew it wasn't a physical issue it as I happened to have a Mac Book Pro for the day and that was copying files to and from the Readynas at about 25/30mb sec min, my Win7 machines (3 of them) could only handle about 3-5mb - shocking!
Solution - downgrade to firmware 4.1.7 on the Readynas - back up to full speed now!

Just downgrade exactly the same way as you do an upgrade and watch your speeds return!
Good luck!
