Reclaim Deleted Space
I am using the ReadyNAS Ultra 2 in Windows. I deleted some large files but the NAS still shows no available space. There should be because the files totaled over 30GB in size. You can empty the trash in Windows. I'm not sure what the equivalent is on the Ultra 2 or what to do to reclaim the deleted space.

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserThere is a network recycle bin in the CIFS tab for the share (in frontview). Is that enabled?
Also, does "NAS still shows no available space" mean Frontview status or something else? - slinky1TutorThanks for your reply. I never would have found that without searching for what the CIFS tab is. Wow... unintuitive. It was unchecked so I would think the deleted space would have been reclaimed. I checked it at set it to 1 day and 10MB to recycle. In Windows there was no option to empty the trash, I guess because it wasn't enabled. It still shows no available space, even after deleted a 24GB file.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserYou can probably just uncheck the network recycle bin again.
Can you be a bit more clear on exactly what is showing no available space??? For instance, what does it say on the Frontview Volume Tab? - slinky1TutorThanks Stephen - both places report 100% use.
Frontview --- volumes > volume settings > 3701 GB (100%) of 3701 GB used
Windows shows the same. But I deleted that 22GB file and I know there was some space left even then, probably 3-4 GB. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserDid you try rebooting the ultra?
- slinky1TutorTried that too. Doesn't seem to matter. Still shows 0% left.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI've never run mine up to 100%, so I am not sure about behavior up there.
You could try opening a support ticket at support.netgear.com (using email). Did you purchase less than 3 years ago? - slinky1TutorIt has been less than a year. They are very quick on the paid support at Netgear. I'll try emailing them - thanks.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserLet us know the outcome!
- slinky1TutorSo far not good. They just recommended an OS reinstall. It did nothing. I tried to copy a 1GB file and I was told I was out of space. I can delete several other files and then try to reclaim the space but it's still a problem. I hope I don't need to reformat the drive and then recopy 3.6TB of data!
