Reinstalling OS to ReadyNAS 2100

This is a 2100 (4-bay rackmount)? The KB article on kb.netgear.com you linked to explains what to do.
The article about rawrite is talking about boot recovery which is something quite different. Furthermore the rawrite instructions are for boot recovery for a different model to yours.
Boot Recovery is useful where the firmware on the internal flash is corrupt. Nothing you have said would suggest that is the case.
A firmware re-install re-installs the firmware from the flash over the top of the installation already on the disks and reset a few settings e.g. the admin password and some network settings.
