ReadyNAS 2100 OS reinstall - does shared permissions reset too?

So i inherited someones job from someone who went rogue and apparently he ended up changing the admin password on our ReadyNAS 2100.  They have a permissions group setup where only leads have admin rights to certain folders, etc etc, and normal users having access to other folders.   So I am going to need to reinstall the OS and my question is, the permissions that were setup initially, i'm assuming these permissions will be removed?   Going to have to reset the permissions again for these users?  Apparently, they run daily backups so I'm hoping the configurations are setup correctly so that I can just restore them.   Just needing input.

  • OS reinstall will

    (a) set the network connection to use DHCP

    (b) set the admin password back to the default ("netgear1" for a NAS running 4.x.x firmware)

It will not change permissions, or otherwise affect your data.

We normally recommend a backup first, just in case.  But it is a pretty safe procedure.

Thanks for the quick response StephenB.  Apparently, i found out that they enabled the ROOT SSH.  Also, I was suprised the root password was set to the default password.  I'm not quite sure why it did not match the Frontview admin access.

        They are separate accounts.

You can change the root password by logging into SSH as the root user and entering the

        # passwd

        command.

On OS6 when the admin password is changed the root password is changed as well.
