Release 6.4.0 rsync errors
Hi,
I just upgraded a couple of NASes to 6.4.0.
They both now fail to backup over rsync with very little info.
One scenario is rsync between 6.4.0 (RN 316) and 4.2.26 (PRO 6).
Some task work fine but two tasks fail. I tried rsync from PRO6 as initiator and source or from RN316 as initiator and PRO6 as source : both fail!
Edit: all tasks (4) copy data from PRO6 to RN316.
PRO6 as initiator (holds the backup tasks and is source)
sending incremental file list rsync: writefd_unbuffered failed to write 4 bytes to socket [sender]: Connection reset by peer (104) rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (5 bytes received so far) [sender] rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(605) [sender=3.0.9]
RN316 as initiator (holds the bacup task and is destination)
rsync: failed to connect to 192.168.0.72 (192.168.0.72): Connection timed out (110) rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c(128) [Receiver=3.1.1]
or (RN316 again)
Failed to run rsync, return rc 2560 (10) 'rsync' command returns rc=2560
How can we debug this?
Thanks

Hi atz6975,
We will look on this issue that you reported and for the time being, let's wait for other members to see if they have encountered the same. By the way, have you tried recreating the backup job and check each shares permission settings?
Kind regards,
BrianL

Hi Brian,
thanks for your answer.
Configurations have been untouched for 1 year (only 6.2.x upgrades every now and then).
If you hint at 640 upgrade corrupting permissions or backup conf, I'm ok to double check, if not then I don't see the necessity to rebuild backup job (I can do it if you prefer).
I have also another 640 on PRO 4 that fails to do rsync from an Ubuntu server 12.04 LTS. Only one job fails (out of 4) and it happens every 1/3 run , here is error + job log :
Failed to run rsync, return rc 7680 (30) 'rsync' command returns rc=7680
./ plana/sql/ plana/sql/plana.tbwpres.sql.gz rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (14260422 bytes received so far) [receiver] rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(226) [receiver=3.1.1] rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (12041399 bytes received so far) [generator] rsync error: timeout in data send/receive (code 30) at io.c(226) [generator=3.1.1]
This Job is about 11 months old and running every hours since then.
As I write this job just completed successfully....
I'm going onsite this morning (France) to check the connection between the PRO6 and RN316....just in case. But on those 2 machines every hour a job succeeds and the other one fails....so connection should not be the issue.
Should I open a case with french support so that we can attach to it in discussion?
I'm puzzled and it's only speculation that 640 is the culprit. But then again, it is the only change in the environment.
Thanks for your help.

I'm trying to retrieve the logs from the RN316 (the one rsyncing from PRO 6) and the system is unresponsive.
Top on ssh gives me btrfs-cleaner at 79-94% all the time so I'm not sure what to do.
I think this is the problem.
I'm going to call french support and create a case.
I have simular errors with rsync on 6.4.0 as you describe.

For the record, I do rsync between a Pro 4 and a Ultra 2, both on 6.4.0 (final), and 0 problem. But I do it withing the same lan, no "remote" site.
- atz6975GuideIndeed, my understanding points to btrfs rather than rsync.
- dtmeasyAspirantI have thr same problem after latest version too.. After upgrade. Possible to downgrade?

Hi dtmeasy,
Welcome to the community!
I am sorry but downgrade isn't an option. Perhaps you could try to load the latest Beta Firmware and let us know if it fixes the issues you've experienced after updating to 6.4.0
Kind regards,

Hi all,
quick update here.
The Nas is now running consistently and all backup have completed yesterday and up to now(they run hourly) . For info, I didn't update to beta 2 yet. Still running 641 beta1.
