I believe it is the digest level authentication. Using ReadyNAS remote with the Windows 7 unit is one work-around (when it won't be using WebDAV, it would be using CIFS over a VPN).

I've set up WebDAV support and am able to view folders on the NAS as folders on my Macbook Pro without issue when on my private network. When I try it from a Windows 7 box on the same network I get an authentication challenge twice, then an error, resulting in not being able to view my WebDAV enabled NAS shares as Explorer folders. I wanted to get this all working on my private LAN first before trying it over the web.
