Replacement Hard Drives for NV+ v1

I need to replace a failing drive in my legacy ReadyNAS NV+ v1. The existing drives are all matching Seagate Baracuda 1TB units, I have purchased a refubished Hitachi 2TB drive to use as the replacement. (it is listed on the Hardware Compatiblity List)  I am running an XRaid configuration. I only have Macintosh computers on my home network.

Questions:

1. Will I have any problems using a larger hard drive of a different brand for the replacement?

2. Do I need to format the drive prior to installing it into the ReadyNAS?

3. Can I double the capacity of my ReadyNas by sequentially upgrading all four drives to 2TB?

Any other tips?

Thank You

No, as long as you stay at 2 TB or smaller.  Your NAS can't handle GPT formatting.

No.  Just replace it with the system running (hot-removal and hot-insertion)

    Yes

I'm not keen on using refurbished drives, though posters here who used hitachi have generally been happy with them.

The HCL for the NV+ v1 is very old, and there are drives not on it which are known to work. NAS-purposed drives like the 2 TB WDC Red work well (I suspect a 2 TB Seagate Ironwolf would also).

Now it won't boot so that I can do the hot swap of the bad disk. The display shows "Booting...Quota chk: 2.4%".

Can I replace the disk after a forced power down?

or do I need to force a reinstall of the OS first?

do I need to delete my log files perhaps?

You can replace the disk with the NAS powered down (or remove the bad one with it powered down, and then hot-insert the replacement after it boots up).
