Replacing a JBOD Failed Disk RN102

Looking for the best way to replace a failing disk in a RN102.  I'm getting error messages and it is an older disk so it's time to replace.  It is 3TB configured as JBOD.  It is redundant back for another drive so the data isn't a big deal.  I'd like to pull the old drive out, put the new drive in and get back up and running with a minimum of configuration effort.  The RN102 is already setup with shares for this volume as well as backup routines.  I can reconfigure everything again - just hoped to not have to.

Any help would be grealy appreciated!

    There's really only one way - which is basically to destory the data volume, remove the drive and insert the new one.

     

    If it's the only drive in the system, you'll need to set up the NAS again.  So just remove the drive, put in the new one, and do a fresh factory install.

     

    If there are two drives, then you should uninstall all your apps and destroy the data volume on the failed disk.  Then insert the new drive, set up the volume, recreate the shares, and restore the data from backup.  Then reinstall the apps.  Also, any backup jobs that used shares on the old volume will be deleted, so you'll also have to recreate them.

     

    Note: the apps part is because the apps are stored on one of your data volumes.  If you know which one, you can potentially avoid the need to uninstall/reinstall the apps.  You can look for the hidden .apps folder on the data volumes, or just go in with ssh and look at the mount point for /apps.

     

    Saving/restoring config files can potentially speed up the process a bit, but if anything goes wrong you could end up with a mess.  So if you don't have too many shares, I'd suggest just redoing the configuration by hand.

        Actually, EXPORT is better than DESTROY.  In the event you ever need to put the drive back in the NAS, you can.  Note that you can't put it back together with a new volume with the same name.
