RN-2100 Upgraded to 6.4.1 Success!
Hey Folks,
I see so many threads saying people are having problems with their legacy hardware that I thought I'd post a success story.
I upgraded my v2 (atom) RN-2100 to OS6 shortly after the 'tweak' was published and upgraded her over the years to 6.2.2 and 4Gb of RAM. However after a number of 'it doesn't work' or 'it breaks' for later build coupled with no real need to upgrade meant it stayed there until today.
Skip forward to a week ago and I was trying to setup XenServer multipath iSCSI to my 2100 without success, the IQN would discover bu the LUN would never appear :(
Now I have a 2nd little NAS a RN104 used as a backup target and iSCSI multipath worked like a charm, although the hardware didn't have enough guts to pull it off for any meaningful results when doing so. However it proved to me that what I was doing was right and that it should work, the difference was the 104 was running 6.4.1.
So after a lengthy job of moving all my VM's off the 2100 today I bit the bullet and did the upgrade. Like an expectant father I waited for the web interface to return and what joy it's a NAS!
Not only has 6.4.1 sorted my iSCSI issue it's 'fixed' all the other little erks such as I now see all my temperatures (CPU/System), both fans and a 1u layout diagram instead of a half full 2u device!
Thank you Netgear for tweaking OS6 to better support my NAS when I can see no real need and thankyou community for getting me here!
My old 2100 lives on for at least a little while longer :)
