RN104 out of memory error out of the blue
Good morning Everyone, I've a peculiar issue with my Readynas 104 - ReadyNASOS 6.5.1: Just after booting (less than 5 min online) throws an "Out Of Memory error +330" and hangs. It's configured wi...

You can try turning off non-essential services (antivirus in particular).
The failing disk is perhaps related - it seems to me that queueing the pending writes in the NAS ram when a sector is being reallocated could increase the memory load.
Your firmware is quite dated, you might want to upgrade it to 6.9.0.

The antivirus feature is indeed off: I think I've never turned it on. The disk is failing since months, but the error arose only erarlier this week. I would upgrade, but I'll prefer to resolve the curren issue first: I don't thin it's good for the NAS to freeze in the middle of firmware upgrade.
I've not done any modification to applications and services in the last few months. It seems that some process went corrupted, but I cannot figure out wich one, and TOP, not the logs are helping me out.

Maybe wait a bit and see if someone from Netgear offers to analyze the logs.

Do you have lots of snapshots? It could be that quotas aren’t suited to your use case and the hangs may be related to that. The option to disable quotas on the volume wasn’t added till newer firmware than what you’re running.
Can you download the logs and see what systemd-journal.log shows? Look for the lines around ones that include oom-killer. There should be a list of processes and an indication as to which one is using lots of RAM.
