ReadyNAS 314 LCD Displaying Memory Error

I have a brand new readynas 314 updated to the latests OS 6.4.2, I believe.  I've only had it for no more than 1.5 days and this morning I see the LCD displaying weird characters.  I couldn't access it via the network and checked the ip address for the NAS was lost.  So I decided to use the power button to power down the system and when I turned it back on I get a message on the lcd that says: Memory Error.  I tried looking for answers with just that message and haven't found any luck.  I don't want to go through the hassle of returning it without trying to fix it first.

  • Memory Error with no ability to use the boot menu appears pretty clear cut. Most likely either a problem with the memory (RAM) or the memory coming loose in shipment.

With a recent purchase if you can return it to your reseller in exchange for a new unit that would be best.

If you were seeing e.g. "Out of Memory" that would be a completely different issue and wouldn't suggest bad hardware.

    Hi davild917,

Could you post the exact error message that showed up on the LCD screen? If there are data or files that you need to access, try to back them up while the unit is in Volume Read Only mode (steps are found here).

    Looking forward hearing your feedback.

    Kind regards,

The exact error message is: Memory Error.  That's it.  Nothing more than that.

I already tried to reset the system by following the steps and it wouldn't reset.  It stays on that error message.

        Hi davila917,

Have you tried booting your system in Volume Read Only mode?

        Kind regards,
