RN104 (perf) MTU / Jumbo Frames not working
Hello,
My readyNas (RN104) seems to be not working with MTU more 1500.
Configuration:
NAS: RN104
Switch: GS108T
PC network card Intel Pro1000PT
OS: Windows 7 64
Between 2 PC with Jumbo frames works really good with the GS108T switch (more 110MBytes/s speed transfert).
MTU/Jumbo set on GS108T: 9216
MTU/Jumbo set on NAS: more 1500 (several values hasa been tested - 1600/1800/200/5000/8000/7936)
MTU/Jumbo set on PC: 4000/8000/9000
-> Someone has success to configure a readynas RNxxx with jumbo frames successfully?
Thanks,
Greg

- PsykoGregAspirantI have just tested in direct link and it's working with 4k MTU/Jumbo parameters.
I have use the second network interface of the nas RN104.
So I have retry with the switch and with the second network interface of the nas and... it's working also :)
But the transfer rate has increased very slightly. :(
36Mo/s to 45Mo/s with 4088 MTU size and with 9k MTU size i obtain the same maximum transfer speed :(
I hoped reach the 50 or 60 Mo/sec like between 2 computer with standard MTU size!
I think really this nas has a performance problem, maybe network cards are very bad... I know the processor is light but for only files transfer it's sufficient.
This Nas is very great on other points of specifications and options, these transfer speed problems are too bad.
it's a shame because it really may scare away customers about these products.
Thank you StephenB for your support :)

That seems a bit odd. Perhaps mdgm can tell something from the logs.PsykoGreg wrote: I have just tested in direct link and it's working with 4k MTU/Jumbo parameters.

Well, Jumbo frames aren't inherently faster. All they do is reduce the number of packets per second that the network card+CPU have to process. The more processing that the network card does (i.e. offloads from the CPU), the smaller the benefits. If you have a really fast network card combined with a really fast CPU you won't see any benefits at all.PsykoGreg wrote: But the transfer rate has increased very slightly. :(
