No account called backup.
However, have added a share called backup - and removed it
Resynced/rebooted NAS
Reboored PC
IT's gone !
Interestingly, until I rebooted the PC, I had no access to the other shares having rebooted the Nas ?

Jun 05, 2016This is not a hardware issue, so swapping the device under the hardware warranty will not fix your issue. You'll boot up the new chassis with the old HHDs, and the same thing will happen as the operating system is on the HDDs (and this is software issue).
Did you try contacting support?

Definitely not hardware.
However, it you want support for a device under warranty - you have to pay pay pay.
So, it cuts the same way if I have to reset or replace the device - I have to start from scratch with my drives.....
So, that's what I did.
After several attempts to reboot to try to get the device to 'sort itself out' and boot past the error, I gave up.
Factory reset the device.
It's now busy resyncing data at 7.2% with "60 plus hours" to go....
But that's OK. I have a back up (copy) of all me data on an old IOMEGA device which I'll restore to the RN104 when it's finished. Then I might upgrade the drives in the IOMEGA to 2TB each and use it for a proper back up - lot of cryptolocker around right now.

OK,
So my factory reset has completed, my drives have spent a few days "Resyncing' - which seems to mean deleting all the data.
However, most of my shares are still there - they are just empty...no files/data in them.
I say 'most of my shares' as I can see them all in Windows explorer.
But, when I look in the ReadyNas web interface, i cannot see my 'Backup' folder - but I can see a 'backup' folder through windows (not the uppercase and lower case B)
I can access and map all folders/shares through Window expect for the 'backup' folder - this prompts me for a user name and password.
Every name/PW combo I try fails.
I also cannot see this folder through the web interface - and I wnat to delete it
Any suggestions how to view/delete this unwanted 'backup' folder??
Thanks

You won't see any of the shares you created after a factory reset. You will see the built-in shares that Netgear creates for you. They willl be empty, since the factory reset is destructive.

Can you post a screen shot of the web ui's share list?

Thanks for the reply - must have used the default folders in the past which is why they have the same names d'oh...
OK, so here are some screen shots of the UI folder list and Windows Explorer folder list for the Nas:
From Windows: - with a folder called backup - where the heck did that come from and how do I get rid of it ??
