No account called backup.
However, have added a share called backup - and removed it
Resynced/rebooted NAS
Reboored PC
IT's gone !
Interestingly, until I rebooted the PC, I had no access to the other shares having rebooted the Nas ?

Is there a account named "backup" configured on the NAS?

Is it possible that on the windows system you had the shares enabled for off-line access?

Windows had mapped several drives including one called "Backup" (capital B) but, after resetting, none of the mapped drives were accessable including the default shares which had previsould been mapped - no big issue, just remapped them.
But there was nothing set to offline nor was there a mapped drive called 'backup' (lowercase b)

There is a bit of a mystery here, but I guess we likely have to live with it.

Windows is case-insensitive. You can use mixed case in the names, but as far as Windows is concerned "backup" and "Backup" are the same. You can't have "backup" and "Backup" subfolders in a main folder, and you can't have both "backup" and "Backup" network shares hosted from the same device.

Thanks for your interest - a mystery here too.
Gone now (but not forgotten :-)
ReadyNas behaving nicely again - I've had a few over the years.
