RN104 with 6.2.2 permanent freeze. How go back to 6.1.x?

Hi there,

maybe someone solved a problem with permanent freeze of RN104 after upgrade to 6.2.x?

Behavior:
After Boot RN104 may work 1-2-3 days and stop responding. Device reply to ping, but no GUI, no SMB share even no Power Off button works.

My actions (unsuccessful):
1. OS reinstall - no success (6.2.2 installed now)
2. Test memory - OK
3. Test HDD (I have 4 WD RED 3Tb each - all SATA error = 0) - OK
4. Backup and make Reset to Factory - no success

Absolutely have no idea what to do next. When was 6.1.9 then such freeze happens only once or twice per year.

Maybe I can downgrade to 6.1.9. Even of I need to backup and Reset to Factory again :(

Thanks in advance.

  • I have theese error messages, just before the NAS froze (systemd-journal.log):

    Someone had the same?
  • Hi all,

same problem here on my RN104, using 1 TB WD and 2 TB WD Red in bay 1 and 2 for quite a while.

Freeze keeps occuring since January 2015 = after upgrading to OS 6.2.2.
Only unplugging helps. No suspected activity or apps (but only the OS itself).

Can I go back to 6.1.9 [http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/25636/~/readynas-os-version-6.1.9] by downloading and flashing it in?
I have a backup on a btrfs disk and am OK with losing the data on volume 1; also have done a factory reset already.

Any news on replicating the issue in the lab?
New version 6.2.3, 6.3.0 of the OS ahead?

    best regards

    Klaus (hactic)

You really cannot downgrade to v6.1.9 once your NAS is already on v6.2.x

About your RN104 freezing, your concern might be kinda related to this forum threads:
    https://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopi ... &start=285
    viewtopic.php?f=20&t=80330

You may want to try Beta FW v6.2.3 T1721 and it might help make your RN104 stable. Here is the link: http://www.readynas.com/download/beta/r ... 21-arm.img
  • Thanks @Ixa and all for the help.

Flashed the T1721 in. First hung for 12+ hours during "Booting ... Updating FW", then unplugged and redid.
Now correctly reports T1721, but my next problem is described in http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=80412&p=455426, which is http 500 when the GUI repeatedly posts to a dbbroker script.

No idea how I would upgrade to a future stable version from here, as the GUI keeps vanishing -- by USB recovery / stick?
I do have ssh access. -- Hints welcome to how I can upgrade from a shell.
