RN314 will not Backup to HFS+

Hi!
I´m trying to setup my RN314 to backup a "share" to an external USB-drive. The drive has HFS+, which is supported according to technical specifications on RN300 series. When trying to backup I get an error that says that the drive is Read only and the NAS is ejecting the drive. What to do?

  • Changed to FAT32 and the disk never shows up on the NAS.
Seems like the USB-protocols on the RN314 isn´t working as it should. Or is my unit malfunctioning?
  • Actually now it does not matter which file system I use. The drive does not show up at all. No matter what USB-port it´s connected to.

Does a different drive show up? Also, does the Mac see the drive correctly?

The 3Tb drive shows perfectly on my mac. Also tested a 1Tb drive with the same result. Rebooted a number of times...

    Also a few USB-thumbdrives...
  • Did an OS reinstall and got the USB-ports back. Created a backup job and all seemed to go well backing up data. After a couple of hours backing up I changed "tab" from backup to System in the web GUI. ReadyNAS crashed and now I cant access anything. Looking at the unit all seems ok but the display will not "light-up" but i can see what it shows if i use a flashlight on it. It displays ReadyNAS IP-Address. Just as it should. Also the backup button blinks. No activity on the USB-drive used for the backup job.

I had a Netgear Stora 4 years ago but sold it because it was so unstable. Thought Netgear should have learned a thing or two in four years but it does not seem that way... Why implement functions that has so low reliability. Sucks!
  • Martin,
    A few points.
    (a) What is model & manufacturer of 3TB HDD? USB2.0 or 3.0?

    (b) I had asked myself for a USB compatibility list for OS6 units.

    (c) You are best to open a support ticket, and attach NAS logs.

    Regards, Marto
