RN31600 stuck at booting after a firmware update

Model RN31664D.   System was(is) at firmware level 6.4.0.  Attempted to apply firmware update 6.7.3.  System now does not boot.  When power cycled the system shows "Status:  Upgrading" with "Firmware:  6.7.3" in the Netgear RAIDar screen for a period of time, then the status changes to "corrupt root", then the firmware goes to 6.4.0, and the status changes to "System is starting up".  Finally the status changes to "Management service is offline" with the front panel of the box displaying "Booting....".    What steps need to be taken to recover this array and get it functional once again?

    If you purchased (new) between 1 June 2014 and 31 May 2016 then you have free chat support (my.netgear.com).  If you have that, you should use it.
