The default password on the v1 is also different - it's netgear1

There is no dashboard software - it is a web application on the NAS that you access through your browser. https://nas-ip-address/admin (using the real IP address of the NAS of course).

This doesn't allow you to create new secured users to have their own access to file. Also I remember a dashboard to be somewhere where you can update firmware as well.
Through the way you mention, I can access what is exsiting but I can't create new setting...i.e. when you take it out of the box and installed the disk on CPU, etc.

This is the admin interface for your ReadyNAS. If it isn't working there is something wrong. You can add user accounts, create/modifiy shares, update firmware etc.
The software manual for the v2 NAS is here: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/READYNAS%20ARM-PLATFORM%20(DUO%20V2,%20NV+%20V2)/RAIDiator%205.3%20SW%20Manual_5Sep12.pdf

You can also do some things with RAIDar. But firmware update isn't one of them. https://kb.netgear.com/20684/ReadyNAS-Downloads

So I realize now that using /Admin after the IP address is what I was doing wrong. However the username and password is different than the account I set up within. I set up the password recovery and it says it would send me an email resetting my password I can't rememeber. I don't get the email. So I was reading that i could reset the unit but watch that I don't delete any data.
Can someone give me some isight on either the password retrieval with the email that isn't working for me or resetting the unit WITHOUT deleting the data.
Thanks

If should have a /admin at the end (not /Admin). The username has to be admin.
If you can't remember the admin password of the NAS, you can to an OS reinstall (which will reset it to the default). A v2's default admin password is password. The OS reinstall is described on pages 16-17 here: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/RND2110/ReadyNAS_Duov2_NV+v2_HW_en_23-Mar-12.pdf
