The default password on the v1 is also different - it's netgear1
So try the web ui again with that password.

I cannot beleive it is not a Version 2... That is so ridiculous.. You are right of course. It says V2 for God's sake.
So i have some good news and some bad news.. The good news outweighs the bad news. Because the lights didn't all illuminate after I held the paperclip for 5 minutes... I pulled the plug on the unit each time I tried. Not a preferred way to shut down but I guess it prevented data from being erased. Bad news, still in the same situation. From the directions, I did the following...tried it twice.
First time:
1) Shutdown
2) Held the reset button as I powered back up
3) 5 seconds later the drive lights flashed
4) Released the reset button.
Second time:
1). Shutdown
2). Unplugged system for about 20 seconds.
3). Held the reset button
4). Plugged in system while still holding the reset button
5). Powered up still holding the reset button
6). Waited for 5 secs when the drive lights flashed
7). released the reset button.
Still cannnot get into admin settings using username: admin password: password
Also I guess I was expecting other things to go to default such as my user name and passwords to get into the usernae accounts. The set mapping for the IP address, etc. Nothing changed.
Any Ideas?

Thank you for your help. A long road to final success. Thanks again.
Netear should be shot for saying that this is a v2 when it isn't really.... lol
- kwiat87268Jul 28, 2017AspirantSo I said in my previous message, thanks again. I read various ways to do this. Knowing my unit as you do, what is the easiest best way to update the firmware? Assume I don't know some of the steps that you would find easy.
Thanks - StephenBJul 28, 2017Guru - Experienced User
On the v1/v2 thing - your system was built before the "real" v2 products were launched. What your label means is that you have hardware revision 2 of a Duo. Netgear's mistake was branding the OS 5 NAS as v2 - they should have chosen a different product name. We've been dealing with that mistake here ever since (and I'm sure it's a pain for Netgear support also).

Actually Raidair says it is 4.1.6

Ok. So that is 8 year-old firmware. I suggest backing up the data (just in case) and then
- navigate to system->update
- click on "check for update". It should find 4.1.16
- follow the prompts to install (and restart).
