Thanks for reply StephenB
SSH was not enabled as far as I remember and a port scan does not show port 22 available.
Have now tried having it re-install its OS by holding the power switch with re-set button pressed but this caused a message saying the os was bad after a re-boot.
next was to re-install the os from a USB which I have done and now with the disks back in it boots - RAIDar says it’s OK and the activity light is flashing (hopefully just a re-sync) but no shares or Admin page still.
Hoping that after the sync finishes (10 hours I think) it might allow access again – does re-sync prevent access to admin page?

I don't think what you did will fix a filling OS partition, unless you accidently did a factory reset (which will cost your data). Hopefully I'm wrong.
Do you have RAIDar installed on a PC? It will often provide the status even when the admin ui is non-reponsive.
Generally I like the old version (4.3.8) with the old NAS - that is here: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/ReadyNAS/RAIDar_Win_4_3_8.exe

When I installed the OS from USB I had removed the disks to protect them!
The older version of RAIDar show everything happy
raid level x 10% used
all 4 disks are green with temperatures betweem 33° and 38° (91 to 100 °F)
Fan doing 20000 rpm
and main box temp at 33°c/91.4°F
Wonder what protocol RAIDar uses to talk to the device?

UDP broadcast (of course the message format itself is proprietary).

OK so I have taken all 4 disk out and laid to one side (labled :)). I have 2 more disk that I have placed in slots 1 & 2 powered up and RAIDar says it’s all happy with the status as initialising Disks. Should the admin page be available whilst in this state as its not?
Cheers
