I have 2 new Netgear recommended , Seagate 3TB Barracuda Hard Drives which on the Netgear compatability page says may require a firmware upgrade. On the Seagate site it states that the CC4H upgrade...

There is this general warning here: http://forums.seagate.com/t5/Barracuda-XT-Barracuda-Barracuda/Frequently-Asked-Questions-related-to-firmware-issues/td-p/23154

Q: Can I update the firmware while my drive is connected to a RAID controller?
A: Customers utilizing RAID architectures incorporating affected products should back up all data content before upgrading drives with the firmware solution. For some arrays firmware upgrades may cause RAID management software to require the array to be rebuilt. Please consult the technical documentation and procedure recommended by the RAID controller manufacturer for your system prior to upgrading any affected product in an array. Please proceed with caution and contact Seagate Technical Support for assistance.
That wouldn't apply to your situation, since these drives aren't even formatted.
That'd be much easier than doing trying to do it on the iMac.

I am using this Netgear NAS with Western Digital and not Seagate hard drives.
These Western Digital hard drives are listed below (as well as in the attached screenshot).
Is there a special Western Digital firmware update that I should load?
Or if I can load the Seagate firmware update (from the http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/223651en website) then which one do I load? I want to be sure to load the right one (see the screenshot).

You have an NV+ V1 (and yes the labels are confusing...). Read this: http://www.rnasguide.com/2012/01/09/how-to-tell-whether-i-have-a-duo-v1-or-duo-v2-or-nv-v1-or-nv-v2/
Your NAS is limited to 2 TB drives, it does not support anything larger.

OK so is there any way that we can make this NAS recognize these four 3 TB hard drives as 2 TB hard drives?
If so how can this be done?
Please provide me with the exact steps.
