Rsync backup problem using dyndns hostname
I have two readyNAS drives, one at work and one at home, they have both been working fine but I wanted to put a larger drive in the one at home so I started again with setting up my backups. When...

When you ping myworkname.dyndns.biz from a PC at home, does it resolve to the same 86.140.x.x IP address?

Yes, I am able to connect to me router at work when I'm home by using the https://myhostname.dyndns.biz:xxxx
Where xxxx is the router remote management port.

Not exactly the question I asked, but likely good enough.
if IPv6 is enabled on the NAS, try disabling it.
If you have ssh access on the NAS, then try nslookup xxxx.dyndns.biz and see if that finds the right IP address.

Hi,
Thanks for getting back to me.
II know it's not exactly what you suggested but the teamviewer session i setup has timed out and I think the PC at home has now gone to sleep so I can only tell you what I have already tried.
I will try disabling IPv6 and report back.
I have no experience with SSH but I will give that a go too and tell you know how I get on.
Thanks for your help so far.

Hi Stephen,
It has beena while since I last looked into the problem as work has been very busy.
I have disabled IPv6 and I can ping the routers from each end, I tried the command you suggested to see what the hostname returned (very helpful command btw, i never knew you could do that!)
It returns the correct ip cmd prompt readout below
Server: Unkown
Address: XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX <= local gateway ip
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: XXXX.dyndns.biz
Address: XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX
It's a bizare problem we're having but I have spoken to my boss (who has the remote NAS at his house) and he has had a new sky router installed (looked very similar to me on the admin webpage) perhaps this is the source of our problems?
We have also changed our broadband provider so we are now on a fibre newtork (can't think why that would affect it)
It all worked fine before.

Hello gjenkins87,
Since you have a new Broadband provider are you getting static ip address or you will need to re-configure your dyndns address for the rsync? Please set the backup job again and check if you will get the same problem.
