The backup process does take a snapshot that it removes again once done. You should see this snapshot if you download the logs during a backup.

mdgm-ntgr is that (temporary pre-backup snapshot) true with all of the backup sources/types/protocols? I have noticed it with some of my backups, but have always wondered if it was true across the board.
