What version of rsync do you have installed in Ubuntu?

I try this local to remote Rsync over ssh is fine. I installed Rsync(3.1.3) in ubuntu.

We use Rsync 3.1.2 in 6.9.3 so if you're running an older version of Rsync I also think updating Rsync on your Ubuntu machine would be worth a try.

I have rsync 3.1.2 as well (standard ubuntu 18.04 pkg install)

protocol version 31, same as the readynas

  Can you try copying some files with rsync itself (instead of rsync-over-ssh)?

    Will do. I know rsync works from my ReadyNAS-314 (6.9.3) to my ReadyNAS Duo v1 (4.1.14)
