Sharing information about flashing firmware on Seagate 1.5TB drives.
Here are a few things from the Flash Utility experience. I saw an instruction (inside the README.TXT page somewhere) that said I would need to “run FLASH.BAT at the DOS prompt” but that is bogus. That is probably only for those using a FLOPPY boot disk.
When you get to the first page that has “ README.TXT – 11-Mar-2008 “ make sure you do what it says -> hit Esc or F10, in order to get to the Main Flash Page. If you do not hit Esc or F10, and instead hit a different key-stroke, the flash utility program will HANG. Take it from me, it will hang. I hit a option / keystroke "S" at the README page, thinking I was at the Main Flash Page, and, well, that's how I know.
Once your at the Main Flash Page, I did option “S” for a scan, then option “A” to flash the disk. Once complete, the prompt is;
“Cycle power to continue…”
“Press any key to continue…”
I was a tiny bit confused here. I cycled power on the newly flashed disc (the HDD was in an eSATA – SATA Disc Holder making a power cycle easy for me) but I was not supposed to do that. Fortunately no harm, no foul.
The funny thing about this prompt;
“Cycle power to continue…”
“Press any key to continue…”
The funny thing about this prompt is that your PC will shut-off immediately after hitting any key. Boom!
It would have been lots better for me if the prompt said;
“Power must now be removed from HDD…”
“Press any key to continue with shutdown…”
After the power down, I do not think the drive needs to be re-booted in the PC configured as “booting from CD boot-disk’. The upgrade flash is done. However, I did re-boot, with the boot-disk CD, then went to the Main Flash Page, and did a Option “S” (scan) to see the system report the HDD fw version.
Cheers!

Chirpa,
A few posts back -either you or some mod changed my post pictures (img's) from wikisend to stashbox, which allows the picture to display in the thread. Thank you for doing that. I might go have a look at stashbox services later.
