I believe CC1J is a later firmware than CC1H, but I'm not positive. I have received four CC1J drives from NewEgg and three CC1G drives from Amazon, all shipped within a week (if not less) of each other. I upgraded the CC1G to CC1H per the updater that Seagate sent me. I then RMA'ed two of the CC1J drives to NewEgg, which sent me two CC1H drives in exchange. I'm not at home now, but when I get home, I'll try to check the date codes to see which drives were manufactured when. I'm guessing it's somewhat random in terms of which firmware is sent by which vendor at any given time and might even depend upon from which warehouse the drive is shipped.
The only problem I've had with some of the CC1J drives is reallocation of sectors. However, I don't think that is necessarily tied to the firmware. I'm not in the IT business, though, so I can't say for certain.
