I bought the diskless NV+ and (3) 1.5 tb Seagates and received them about 3 weeks ago (All CC1J). So far, I have only installed one of the drives and it already has 1 reallocated sector. These are my first purchases through newegg and I haven't installed the other 2 drives as I have been half expecting to return them and wasn't sure if newegg would be more inclined to return them if they were unopened. I have been waiting it out for some resolution to the firmware issues, but everything I read seams to be speculation with no clear answers from Seagate and Netgear, understandably, still hasn't added them to the hardware compatibility list. I have about 3 days before I need to decide once and for all what I am going to do.
My initial interest in a NAS/RAID box was data redundancy for enhanced security. I am freaked out by all the problems I have been reading about the Seagate 1.5tb & 1tb drives. All these issues sort of defeat the main purpose for which I made the purchase.
I am leaning toward giving up on Seagate drives altogether and going with the Samsung 1tb HD103UJ. The info I find about these drives on the forum is 6 months old so I assume that they are installed and working correctly in a bunch of systems.
Does anyone have any advice for me and others? Should we wait it out and trust that the Seagate drives will be stable and supported by Netgear? How important is it for the drive to be on Netgear's compatibility list? I would love the additional storage offered by the 1.5tb drives, but I can live for several years using the 1tb drives before I would need to add more storage. Anyone have any recent feedback on the Samsung 1tb drives?
Thanks for any comments or feedback to help me decide which direction to proceed!
