SFP+ Direct Attach Cables

Hi,

I'm about to upgrade our ReadyNAS4200 box with SFP+. We've purchased the Intel card (http://www.intel.com/Assets/PDF/prodbrief/Intel_10_Gig_AFDA_Dual_Port_prodbrief_v002.pdf) and the Netgear SFP+ card.

We originally ordered the Netgear SFP+ cable because it was in stock and cheaper than the cisco cable, and was apparently compatible with the setup. However the delivery date has now slipped another 3 weeks and I've given up waiting.

Now trying to source like for like cables from Cisco or HP however I've heard that the cables might not be compatible (this coming from "level 4 support"). Can anyone suggest otherwise, or at least reassure me that these Cisco cables will work? (unable to post URLs, so it's the "Cisco SFP+ Copper Twinax Cable")

Thanks very much in return.
Dan

  • Sucks that you can't just use optical transceivers and cable... very easy and cheap to come by...
  • yeah probably much cheaper than the £120 for 2 cables that I'm now shelling out.
