Share access setup

Hi, I've a readyNas Duo and I've setup a user on that NAS (User1) providing him exclusive access to one folder (private) and shared access to a second folder (communication).
Private is a noAccess as default and User1 is added intothe read/write field in CIFS
Communication is a noAccess as default and Users (group) is added into the read/write field in CIFS (User 1 is part of user group)

Everything is working fine, but now I'm creating a new user (user 2) that should access Communication and a third folder (Private2).
I've created private2 as a defaut=noAccess and User2 is added into the read/write field in CIFS
in the meantime I put User2 into Users Group, so that he should take access also to Communication folder.

Now, when I try to connect to these folders, as user 2 I can see the share (\\192.168.10.100\Private2), system ask me for a username and password for \\192.168.10.100\Private2 and I use user2 credential. At this point user and password seems to be accepted, while system prompt me again for password, but for a different share that correspond to the username (\\192.168.10.100\User2). This share doesn't really exists, but I imagine it's part of the authorization system. Isn't it?
In any case, is there something wrong in my setup?

Thankyou in advance.

The first time you login as a user over CIFS (i.e. connect to \\192.168.10.100), by default a private home share for that user is created. Only the "admin" user and that user can access the private home share. The next time you login you should be able to see and access that private home share.

You shouldn't need to enter the credentials twice, I think.

What version of Windows are you running?
  • I'm experiencing the problem under WinXP Home.
Under the suspect it was a windows problem, I've tried to access the same share from Win 7, but I've the same problem.

The strange thing is that user1 has a specific folder named as the user and I've not created it. Other user doesn't have this kind of folder. From your message I understand all user should have it.

    I'm completly lost....
  • Seems it now works... I simply changed tha password and logged with the new password trough HTTPS. At this point the share seems to be accessible also through windows Files Systems unsing the network path \\192.1168.10.100

I still don't know why, but it works. The unique thing I'm sure, I wasn't using the wrong password, while I changed it many times...

Just one question for people much expert than me.... is there a check on the readynas that perhaps lock the user if the login is not accepted (wrong) for many times? If yes there a way to know if this happened?

    thanks.
  • It works on 2 different machines under Win XP Pro and Win 7, but it doesn't on Win XP Home. Any suggestion?
