Hi all,
I have my NV+ running well for quite a while now (after a crap load of work!). Now I want to fix a couple of small niggles. On finder under shared, I have my readynas (named MediaServer) showing up as :
MediaServer
MediaServer (AFP)
Now I know the AFP is the best one (and only one for me) to work on my OSX, while the other I presumed as CIFS? I use an external media player (openelec / XBMC) which uses this protocol. However, I want it to stop announcing the MediaServer part, and rename the MediaServer (AFP) to remove the AFP. Its a pretty pointless exercise I know, but I want to tidy things up! :D
I have hidden the CIFS service under /etc/avahi/services/cifs.service by renaming it cifs.service.disabled.
I have then edited the afp.service to remove the (AFP) from the label. But for some reason, this has not actually changed anything! Is there somewhere else I need to edit to get this to work?

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI think it would be simpler to remove CIFS by disabling it in Frontivew's standard file protocols list.
I don't use AFP, so I don't know the nuances there. - ricostuartAspirantThanks for the quick reply!
Unfortunatly I cant disable it, as its required for my XBMC setup to get the files. It wont support (well it kinda does, but very buggy) AFP. - ricostuartAspirantCant believe it took me this long! I have figured it out. The first one was timemachine being announced (very odd!), so i changed the file in /etc/avahi/services/timemachine.service to timemachine.service.disabled.
Timemachine still works fine, but no longer being announced. CIFS also running, but not announced. The only one is AFP (all macs here at the moment!)
